Abstract:
Objective: To investigate the level of uncertainty in illness and care needs status in family members of intensive care unit(ICU)patients, and explore their correlations.
Methods: The general situation, uncertainty in illness and care needs of 165 family members of ICU patients were investigated using convenience sampling method.
Results: The average score of uncertainty in illness of family members of ICU patients was(80.94±11.57),which was at a high level. The importance factor of care needs in family members of ICU patients were the illness assurance, getting information, getting close to patients, medical staff support and their comfort in turn. The correlation analysis showed that there were varying degrees,in addition to the comfort factor, between the other four factors and uncertainty in illness of family members of ICU patients(
P<0.01).
Conclusions: The care needs of family members of ICU patients should be met with at the same time nursing staff focus on patient's illness, which can reduce their uncertainty and enable it to better work with medical personnel.
