Abstract:
Objective: To discuss the diagnostic value of CT in the masses of scalp.
Methods: CT,clinical characteristics and histological findings of 128 lesions from 124 patients were analyzed retrospectively, including clinical symptoms, age of onset, sex, position of lesion, density of lesion, margin, and adjacent destruction of bones.
Results: One hundred and twenty-four patients were included,92 males and 32 females. There were 120 cases with singe scalp mass, and 4 cases with multiple scalps masses.120 cases (93.7%)showed as benign masses, and 8(6.3%)as malignant masses.According to the tissue origin, the masses may originate from the scalp soft tissue or the skull.Lipoma(44/128),epidermoid cyst(19/128) and trichilemmal cystst(17/128)are consided as the most common pathological type.
Conclusions: The position, morphology, density of mass and adjacent destruction of bone could be well indicated by CT,and this may produce an effective impact on diagnosis,CT scanning is the important assistant to clinicls.
