Abstract:
Objective: To explore the effects of the psychological contract on job performance of nurses in public hospital.
Methods: Five hundred and twenty-three nurses from more than secondary public hospital were investigated using the nurses' psychological contract scale and hospital nurses' job performance rating scale. The relationship between the nurses' psychological contract and job performance was explored using the descriptive statistics analysis, pearson correlation analysis and multiple stepwise regression analysise.
Results: The mean scores of the hospital responsibility and nurse responsibility in psychological contract of nurses, and the job performance of nurses were(3.16±0.88),(4.49±0.58) and(4.65±0.43),respectively.Pearson correlation analysis showed that the each dimension of the psychological contract of nurses was positively correlated with the task performance and contextual performance(
P<0.05 to
P<0.01),and negatively correlated with the anti-production performance(
P<0.05 to
P<0.01).Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that the working year, hospital characteristics, nurse team responsibility and nurse development responsibility entered the regression equation of job performance.
Conclusions: Nurses perceiving psychological contract is at the medium level, the un-satisfaction of hospital responsibility is higher than that of nurses, and the manager should pay attention to the performance of hospital responsibility. The work performance of nurses is at a relatively high level, and which is mainly affected by the nurses' responsibility in psychological contract. To establish and maintain the psychological contract is an important measure to improve the job performance of nurses.
