Effect of edaravone on patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease complicated with cognitive dysfunction

Abstract: Objective:To investigate the effects of edaravone on patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) complicated with cognitive dysfunction. Methods:Two hundred and eighteen patients with COPD complicated with cognitive dysfunction were randomly divided into the edaravone group(treated with edaravone combined with routine treatment) and routine treatment group. The MoCA scores, total treatment effect and effective rates in intent to treat population(ITT population) and per protocol population(PP population) between two groups before and after treatment were compared. Results:After treatment, the MoCA scores in two groups were significantly improved, especially for the edaravone group(P<0.05).The total treatment effect in edaravone group was better than that in routine treatment group(P<0.05).The difference of the effective rate between ITT population and PP population was not statistically significant(P>0.05).Conclusions:Edaravone can improve the cognitive function, and enhance the curative effect in patients with COPD complicated with cognitive impairment,
