Abstract:
Objective:To investigate the effects of liraglutide on the plasma testosterone level in type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) male patients complicated with obesity/overweight.
Methods:A total of 40 obese or overweight T2DM patients were randomly divided into the control group and observation group(20 cases each group). The control group and observation group were treated with routine method and liraglutide combined with routine method, respectively. After 6 months of treatment, the clinical effiency of liraglutide, and effect of liraglutide on the plasma testosterone level were observed.
Results:Before treatment, the differences of the levels of FPG,HbA1c,HOMA-IR and HOMA-β between two groups were not statistically significant(
P>0.05).After treatment, the levels of FPG and HbA1c in control group, and all indexes in observation group were significantly improved compared with before treatment(
P<0.01).Compared with the control group, the levels of FPG and HbA1c,and level of HOMA-β in observation group significantly decreased and increased after treatment, respectively(
P<0.05 to
P<0.01).The plasma level of testosterone in observation group after treatment was significantly higher than that before treatment(
P<0.01),and the difference of which in control group between before and after treatment was not statistically significant(
P>0.05).The differences of the plasma levels of testosterone between two groups were not statistically significant before and after treatment(
P>0.05).
Conclusions:Liraglutide can effectively reduce the blood glucose, improve the function of pancreas islet β-cells,and enhance the plasma level of testosterone in T2DM patients complicated with obesity or overweight.
