Abstract:
ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of cardiovascular disease on the glucose and lipid metabolism, insulin resistance and sex hormones in fertile women with polycystic ovarian syndrome(PCOS).
MethodsThe levels of the blood glucose, insulin, blood lipid and sex hormone in 80 patients with PCOS were detected, and the patients were divided into the cardiovascular disease group(n=17)and non-cardiovascular disease group(n=63)according to the occurrence of cardiovascular disease. The levels of above-mentioned indexes, and incidence rates of abnormal glucose metabolism, dyslipidemia, insulin resistance(IR)and hyperandrogenism(HA)were compared between two groups.
ResultsThe levels of postprandial 2 h blood glucose, fasting insulin, postprandial 2 h insulin, steady-state model insulin resistance index, total cholesterol, triacylglycerol, low-density lipoprotein, testosterone and sex hormone binding globulin in cardiovascular disease group were significantly higher than those in non-cardiovascular disease group(P < 0.05 to P < 0.01).The incidence rates of abnormal glucose metabolism, dyslipidemia, IR and HA in cardiovascular disease group were significantly higher than those in non-cardiovascular disease group(P < 0.05).
ConclusionsThe risks of abnormal glucose and lipid metabolism, IR and HA are relatively higher in PCOS patients complicated with cardiovascular disease.
