Abstract:
Objective To explore the expression of PLOD2, Snail and Slug in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.
Methods The expressions of PLOD2, Snail and Slug in 120 specimens of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, 40 specimens of atypical hyperplasia of esophageal squamous epithelium (moderate and severe) and 40 specimens of normal mucosa were detected by immunohistochemical staining. The relationships between the expressions of the three proteins and the clinicopathological features, survival time and survival state of the patients were analyzed. The relationship between PLOD2 and the EMT-associated factors Snail and Slug was analyzed and the role of PLOD2 in EMT was explored.
Results From normal esophageal squamous epithelium to atypical hyperplasia and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, the expressions of PLOD2, Slug and Snail increased gradually (P < 0.01).The expressions of PLOD2, Snail and Slug were related to the depth of tumor invasion, differentiation, clinical stage and lymph node metastasis (P < 0.01).In addition, expression of PLOD2 was positively correlated with the expression of Snail and Slug (r=0.812 and 0.759, P < 0.01), the expression of Snail was also positively correlated with expression of Slug (r=0.882, P < 0.01).The 5-year survival rate of PLOD2, Snail and Slug positive expression group were significantly lower than that of the negative expression group(P < 0.01).
Conclusions The expressions of PLOD2, Snail and Slug are related to the occurrence, development and prognosis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. The combined detection of their expressions maybe has great significance to the progress and prognosis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.
