Abstract:
Objective: To explore the effects of nurse-led patient participation-based dietary intervention on gastrointestinal symptoms and quality of life of patients with advanced lung cancer during chemotherapy.
Methods: According to the length of hospitalization, patients with lung cancer undergoing chemotherapy were divided into the control group (40 cases) and the observation group (43 cases). The control group received routine health education, and the observation group received nurse-led patient participation-based dietary intervention based on routine health education.Body mass index (BMI) was measured before and after intervention.Chemotherapy-related gastrointestinal symptoms inventory (CGISI) and quality of life questionnaire-core 30 (QLQ-C30) were used for investigation.
Results: After one month of intervention, there was no statistically significant difference in BMI between the two groups of patients (
P>0.05).The occurrence and influence of gastrointestinal symptoms in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (
P<0.01).The functional areas of quality of life (role function and emotional function) and overall health status in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (
P<0.05 to
P<0.01),and the severity of loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, fatigue in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (
P<0.05 to
P<0.01).
Conclusions: Nurse-led patient participation-based dietary intervention can improve the gastrointestinal symptoms of patients with advanced lung cancer after chemotherapy, and improve the quality of life of patients by improving role function, emotional function, nausea and vomiting, appetite and fatigue symptoms.
