Abstract:
Objective: To investigate the expression and clinical significance of KiSS-1 gene in nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) tissue.
Methods: KiSS-1 mRNA expression level was detected in 31 nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissues and 14 non-tumorous tissues by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR).The relationship between NPC and clinicopathological factors was also be analyzed.
Results: The positive rate of KiSS-1 mRNA in nasopharyngeal carcinoma and non-tumorous nasopharyngeal tissues was 67.7% and 85.7%,respectively.The result was no significant difference between these two groups(
P>0.05).No correlation was found between the expression of KiSS-1 gene and other clinicopathological factors such as patient's sex, age,T stage(
P>0.05).
Conclusions: KiSS-1 gene is highly expressed in non-tumorous nasopharyngeal tissue while low expressed in NPC.Loss of KiSS-1 expression was correlated with clinical stage and lymph node metastasis of NPC.These inclicated that KiSS-1 may play an important role in metastasis of NPC.
