Abstract:
Objective: To study the method of repairing cleft palate with unilateral palatal mucoperiosteal flap.
Methods: The palatal mucoperiosteal flap on the operated side was relaxed completely by lengthening the neurovasculas and reconstracting the musculus levator veli patatini,so that it could be moved to the posterior. The flap was sutured with the other side of cleft without tension and a simple surgical maneuver made the cleft closed completely.
Results: One hundred and sixteen cases of unilateral cleft palate were repaired with this method;only two patients had fistula in the anterior palate;others had good quality of speech.
Conclusions: This procedure has the advantages of less surgical trauma and less blood loss;and it requirs less operation time, than the conventional procedures. It is a feasible and convenient method for the repair of cleft palate.
