Abstract:
Objective:To study the effect of standard decompressive craniotomy on severe traumatic brain injury.
Methods:The clinical data of 60 cases of severe traumatic brain injury treated by standard decompressive craniectomy were retrospectively reviewed.
Results:All the cases were followed up for six months to one year.Good recovery was observed in 8 cases,moderate deficit in 10 cases,severe deficit in 11 cases,persistent vegetative status in 12 and death in 19 cases.
Conclusions:Standard decompressive craniotomy improves the outcome of severe traumatic brain injury.
