Abstract:
Objective: To study the effect of surgical therapy on large bowel obstruction caused by colorectal carcinoma.
Methods: Fifty-six patients with large bowel obstruction caused by colorectal carcinoma were treated by surgery, and the results were analyzed retrospectively.
Results: Among the 56 cases,10 were performed right hemicolectomy,4 transvercolectomy, and 40 left hemicolectomy, proximal colon fistulization or distal colon closure. Two cases whose rectum carcinoma couldn't be removed underwent sigmoid fistulization. The perioperative mortality rate was 3.6%(2/56),and the rest recovered well.
Conclusions: Early diagnosis, rational selection of surgical procedures and appropriate perioperative management may reduce the complications and mortality rate in treatment of large bowel obstruction caused by colorectal carcinoma.
