Abstract:
Objective: To explore the influence of health education on patients undergoing interventional treatment.
Methods: Fifty-two patients(37 men,15 women, mean age 60.5±9.2)were randomly assigned to intervention group(27 patients)and control group(25 patients).Health education via Powerpoint multimedia courseware containing letter, picture, flash animation and video film was given to the intervention group prior to elective coronary angiography, percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty and intracoronary stenting. The control group were only told roughly the invasive procedure, common complications and precautions. The levels of anxiety in the two groups before and after health education was measured by the Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI).
Results: After health education, the anxiety scores decreased significantly in the intervention group(P<0.001)and the scores did not decrease in the control group(P>0.05).The change of anxiety trait scores before and after health education was not significant in the two groups(P>0.05).
Conclusions: Health education via powerpoint multimedia courseware is an effective way to reduce the anxiety of patients undergoing interventional treatment, which is worth popularizing.
