Abstract:
Objective: To explore the causes, treatment and prevention of the complications after ventriculoperitoneal shunt.
Methods: The surgical procedure, prognosis and complication of 75 patients who had accepted ventriculopefitoneal shunt were retrospectively reviewed.
Results: Complete recovery was observed in 43 cases, duct block in 16 cases, infection in 13 cases, excessive shunt in 2 cases and bowel perforation in 1 case.
Conclusions: Strict disinfection, aseptic and normative operation, meticulous observation and timely management of the complications in patients having received ventriculopefitoneal shunt are essential in improving the clinical efficacy;it is suggested that patients whose drainage tube are repeatedly blocked resort to ventricle-umbilicus-portal vein shunt.
