Abstract: Objective: To explore the effects of sodium aescinate on preventing cluster headache. Methods: Twenty-two patients with episodic cluster headache were treated with sodium aescinate(20 mg /d) by intravenous infusion for 10 days, and then using tablet by oral(0. 3 g /d, twice a day) . The frequency and duration of headache of all patients were observed,which was compared with that of pretreatment. Results: The duration and frequency of cluster headache of 22 patients after treatment were obviously shorter and lower than that of pre-treatment(P ＜ 0. 05) . Conclusions: The effects of sodium aescinate treating cluster headache are good. Sodium aescinate is little side-effect and well tolerated,which is an ideal drug to treat episodic cluster headache.
