Abstract:
Objective: To observe the effect of dynamic hip screw(DHS) in the treatment of intertrochanteric fractures of femur in the elderly.
Methods: Forty-five elderly patients with intertrochanteric fractures of femur treated by DHS from Jan.2001 to Jun.2003 in our hospital were studied. The fracture type, surgical procedure, preexistent diseases before operation, treatment after operation and curative effect were summarized.
Results: One case died of pneumonia and heart failure;the other 44 cases were followed up for an average of 21.6 months. The results were excellent in 84.1% cases, good in 11.4% cases and poor in 4.5% cases.
Conclusions: DHS internal fixation is an ideal method for treatment of intertrochanteric fractures of femur in the elderly with the advantages of strong fixation, lower morbidity and mortality, and early recovery of motion.
