Abstract:
Objective: To evaluate the influence of dexamethasone on endodontic interappointment pain(EIP).
Methods: One hundred and sixty-four teeth were randomly divided into two groups. The test group were injected 5 mg dexamethasone at apical region of pulp necrosis teeth after root canal preparation, then the incidence of EIP was observed and compared with that of the control group.
Results: The incidence of EIP in the test group was 7.32%,while it was 21.95% in the control group, the difference was significant(
P<0.05).The incidence of EIP of non-fistular posterier tecth increased significantly(
P<0.01).
Conclusions: Local injection of dexametnasone can efficiently reduce the incidence of EIP and alleviate the pain.
