Abstract:
Objective: To investigate the value of MRI in diagnosis of uterine adenomyosis.
Methods: Seventeen cases of adenomyosis confirmed by pathology were performed sagittal, traverse or coronary scans of SE T
1WI,FSE T
2WI,and FIR sequences T
2 SPIR MRI examination, and 2 cases received enhanced scanning.
Results: Eight cases with diffuse adenomyosis demonstrated diffusely equably or unequably thickened junctional zone(JZ),5 cases showed homonenous hypointensity with hyperintensive foci within the hypointensive lesions on T
2WI,and 3 cases were found hyperintensive foci on T
1WI.Fifteen focal lesions in 9 cases, whose junctional tone was limitedly thickened, were oval, irrenular or round masses with hypointensity which were the same as the intensity of JZ on T
2WI.Eight of them had hyperintensive foci within the hypointensive and 6 of the 8 also presented hyperintensive on T
1WI.All the cases showed enlargement of uterus, and the cases with myoma of uterus showed bulginess on the outline. All enhanced lesions were thickened as the junction zone.
Conclusions: MRI is of great value in diagnosis and localization of uterine adenomysis.
