Abstract:
Objective To investigate the current status of benefit finding in middle-aged patients with stroke and analyze its influencing factors.
Methods A total of 230 middle-aged patients with stroke were investigated by convenience sampling. They were investigated with General Condition Questionnaire, Benefit Finding Questionnaire, the Cognitive Appraisal of Health Scale, Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire and Chinese Big Five Personality Inventory brief version. The influencing factors of benefit finding in middle-aged patients with stroke were analyzed.
Results The benefit finding characteristics of middle-aged stroke patients could be divided into three categories named as "low benefit finding group" (n = 43, 18.70%), "moderate benefit finding group" (n = 90, 39.13%) and "high benefit finding group" (n = 97, 42.17%). The results of multiple logistic regression analysis showed that the spousal or child care was the protective factor of benefit finding in middle-aged stroke patients (OR = 2.113-2.541, P < 0.05); Positive evaluation was the protective factor of benefit finding in middle-aged stroke patients (OR = 1.112 and 1.240, P < 0.05); Yielding coping was the risk factor of benefit finding in middle-aged stroke patients (OR = 0.853 and 0.898, P < 0.05); Rigorous personality was the protective factor of benefit finding in middle-aged stroke patients (OR = 1.086 and 1.096, P < 0.05).
Conclusion There are obvious classification characteristics in benefit finding for middle-aged stroke patients. Clinical nurses should intervene according to the characteristics of different types of middle-aged stroke patients to help them actively cope with stroke, so as to improve their benefit finding.
