Abstract:
Objective: To evaluate the advantage and disadvantage of the approach of olecranon osteotomy in treatment of the humeral intercondylar fracture.
Methods: The approach of olecranon osteotomy was used to treat 28 patients with humeral intercondylar fractures. The "Y" steel plate was used to treat the humeral intercondylar fracture. The tension band was used to fix the artificial fracture of olecranon.
Results: The patients were followed up from 6 months to 34 months, 12 months on average. The fracture was healed in 6 to 20 weeks after the operation, 10 months on average. The curative effect was assessed by the method of the modified Aitken-Rorabeck graded system. The operation was excellent in 14 patients;good in 8;fair in 3;bad in 1.The excellent and good rate was 85.7%.
Conclusions: The approach of olecranon osteotomy in treatment of humeral intercondylar fracture is a good method although the olecranon osteotomy has to be performed. It was favorable for the exposure and fixation of the masses of the fracture and the early functional exercise.
