Study on the effect of nursing intervention on anxiety of patients before selective total hip arthroplasty

Abstract: Objective: To explore the anxiety and nursing strategy of patients before total hip arthroplasty. Methods: Seventy-five patients required total hip arthroplasty were randomly divided into observation group(40 cases) and control group(35 cases). On the basis of the routine nursing care, the patients of observation group were given deep educations of the knowledge of anesthesia and surgical procedure, including possible complications of the operation and its preventions. The patients of control group were given only routine nursing care. The incidence rate of anxiety and satisfaction rate of surgery were compared between the two groups. Results: The incidence rate of severe anxiety was 47.5% in observation group and 42.9% in control group before the interventions(P > 0.05). The incidence rate of severe anxiety was 17.5% in observation group and 45.7% in control group after the interventions(P < 0.01). Conclusions: The incidence rate of anxiety of is higher in patients before total hip arthroplasty. It can be reduced through deep nursing interventions on the basis of routine nursing care.
