Abstract:
Objective: To investigate the expression of survivin mRNA and to evaluate its effects on the tumorigenesis, progression and recurrence in transitional cell carcinoma of bladder(TCCB).
Methods: In 53 cases of TCCBs and 10 cases of normal bladder mucosas, the expression level of survivin mRNA was detected by in situ hybridization(ISH).
Results: The expression positive rate of survivin mRNA in TCCB(71.7%) was significantly higher than that in 10 normal bladder tissues(P<0.005).The expression level of surviving mRNA was elevated as the grade and stage increased in TCCB.The positive rates in grade G

3 were 50.0%,68.2% and 94.1%(P<0.005),50.0% and 92.6% in stage of Ta-T

4,respectively.All the data in above groups were statistically significant(P<0.01);and in primary and recurrent cases were 66.7% and 85.7% and the data was statistically significant(P<0.05).
Conclusions: The higher expression of survivin mRNA may play an important role in the tumorignesis, development and recurrence of TCCB.
