Abstract:
Objective: To evaluate the effect of partial parenteral nutrition(PPN) plus enteral feeding on premature infants.
Methods: Forty premature infants were randomly divided into control group and study group. The study group were administered parenteral nutrition in addition to enteral feeding, while the control group received 5%-10% glucose, fluid and electrolytes simultaneously. The relevant indices were measured in the 2 groups.
Results: There were no significant differences in blood biochemistry and glucose between the two groups before and after PPN(
P>0.05).The time of hospital stay and birth-weight regain was significantly shorter in the study group than in the control group(
P<0.05-
P<0.01).
Conclusions: Premature infants could tolerate small volume of PPN during the first day of life.A combination of intravenous and small amount of oral feeding has no significant influence on the blood biochemistry and glucose of the infants, which may shorten the hospital stay and help the weight gain.
