Abstract:
Objective:To explore the willingness of engaging in the elderly volunteer service and nursing geriatric in nursing undergraduates,and its influencing factors for providing reference in improving the training of nursing geriatric personnel.
Methods:Five hundred nursing undergraduates were selected using cluster sampling method.The willingness of engaging in the elderly volunteer service and nursing geriatric,promoting and hindering factors and type of engaging elderly volunteer service in nursing undergraduates were investigated using questionnaire.
Results:The 74.6% of nursing undergraduates were willing to participate in the elderly volunteer service,and 40.4% of nursing undergraduates were willing to engage in the job of nursing geriatric.The willingness of communicating with geriatric and liking the nursing profession were the influencing factors of engaging in the elderly volunteer service and nursing geriatric(
P<0.01).The top three elderly volunteer services were visiting geriatric,recreation activities and medical advisory service for geriatric,respectively.The interesting in volunteer activities,helping the poor,contributing to society,cognition and attitude to volunteer activities were the main influencing factors on promoting the elderly volunteer service.The experience of communicating with elderly,good prospect and attitude toward elderly were the main factors in promoting the job of nursing geriatric.
Conclusions:The willingness of engaging in the volunteer service is higher than that of nursing geriatric in nursing undergraduates.Liking the nursing profession and willing to get along with older people are the main potential resources in engaging in the elderly volunteer service and nursing geriatric in nursing undergraduates.
