Abstract:
ObjectiveTo explore the mediating role of self-esteem in the relationship between mindfulness and academic engagement among rural order-oriented free medical students.
MethodsFour hundred and ninety order-oriented medical students from three medical colleges in Anhui province were investigated using the five-factor mindfulness scale, self-esteem scale and academic input scale.
ResultsThe results of correlation analysis showed that there was a positive correlation between mindfulness, self-esteem and academic engagement in pairs(P < 0.01).The results of structural equation model test showed that the self-esteem played a partial mediating role between mindfulness and academic engagement. The fitting indexes of the model were χ2=90.33, df=37, χ2/df=2.377, NFI=0.98, CFI=0.99, IFI=0.99 and RMSEA=0.069.The total effect value of mindfulness on academic motivation was 0.461, the mediating effect value was 0.143, and which accounted for 31.12% of total effect value.
ConclusionsThe positive intervention of free medical students contributes to the improvement of self-esteem level, promotion of academic input and improvement of academic level.
