Effects of comprehensive nursing intervention on infants and children receiving intravenous therapy

Objective: To investigate the role of comprehensive nursing intervention in the intravenous therapy for infants and children.Methods: One hundred patients were randomly divided into observation group and control group(n=50 in each).Both groups were administered the routine therapy and nursing care;and the observation group were given additional comprehensive nursing interventions including environmental management,psychological intervention and interventions before intravenous infusion,before venipuncture,during and after the infusion.The success rate of venipuncture,the patients' compliance in receiving the infusion therapy,their satisfaction to the nursing care and incidence of nursing disputes between the nurses and patients were compared between the two groups.Results: The observation group were superior to the control group in satisfaction to the nursing care,compliance and success rate of venipuncture(P<0.05 to P<0.01);the difference in the incidence of nursing disputes between the two groups was not statistically significant(P>0.05).Conclusions: The comprehensive nursing intervention for infants and children receiving intravenous therapy can increase the success rate of venipuncture,alleviate the patients' suffering and improve their satisfaction and compliance.
