Abstract
Objective:To explore the effects of valsartan combined with folic acid in the treatment of elderly patients with type H hypertension complicated with high homocysteine. Methods:Three hundred patients with type H hypertension were randomly divided into the control group and treatment group. The control group were treated with 80 mg of valsartan once a day by oral, the treatment group were additionally treated with 0.4 mg of folic acid once a day by oral based on the control group. Two groups were treated for 12 months, the levels of blood pressure and homocysteine, and cardio-cerebrovascular events in two groups were observed before and after treatment. Results:Compared with before treatment, the blood pressure levels in two groups decreased significantly after 3, 6 and 12 months of treatment(P<0.01), but the difference of the hypotensive effects between two groups was not statistically significant(P>0.05).The homocysteine level and incidence of transient ischemic attack in treatment group were significantly lower than those in control group after 3, 6 and 12 months of treatment(P<0.01).Conclusions:The effects of valsartan combined with folic acid in the treatment of the elderly patients with type H hypertension are good, which can decrease the levels of the blood pressure and homocysteine, and occurrence of transient ischemic attack at the same time.
