The expression difference of interleukin-6 in serum and cerebrospinal fluid of patients with acute craniocerebral injury and its significance

    • Objective:To investigate the expressions of interleukin-6(IL-6) in serum and cerebrospinal fluid(CSF) of patients with acute craniocerebral injury and its significance.Methods:Thirty-six patients with acute craniocerebral injury were divided into the moderate-severe injury group(GCS≤12, 15 cases) and mild injury group(GCS>12, 21 cases) according to the GCS, 19 patients without nerve system disease were used as the control group. The levels of IL-6 in CSF and serum in all cases were detected by ELISA.Results:The levels of IL-6 in CSF and serum in moderate-severe injury group were significantly higher than those in mild injury group and control group, respectively(P<0.01).The levels of IL-6 in CSF and serum in mild injury group were obviously higher than those in control group, respectively(P<0.01).The levels of IL-6 in CSF was higher than that in serum in mildinjury group, moderate-severe group and control group(P<0.05 to P<0.01).Conclusions:The levels of IL-6 in CSF and serum of patients with acute craniocerebral injury are associated with its injury level. The different expression of IL-6 between serum and CSF has an important role on investigating the injury mechanism of brain.
