    EGAP need of graduate students in medical universities

    • Objective:To investigate the English for general academic purpose(EGAP) needs of medical graduate students in order to provide a reference for EGAP courses.Methods:The EGAP needs of 113 medical graduate students were investigated using questionnaire, and 5 representative mentors were interviewed by semi-structured from a medical college.Results:Ninety-eight percent of graduate students required EGAP courses, in which reading was the most needed.They wanted to learn the characteristics of EGAP, academic writing and translating.Improving the writing ability was the primary goal of learning, secondly, reading and translation ability.Most graduate students thought that the EGAP courses should be taught by a high level of English teacher.Conclusions:EGAP can help graduate students to transition from college English study to academic writing.Offering EGAP courses for medical graduate students is strongly necessary.
