The application of early enteral nutrition support after gastric cancer operation

    • Objective:To compare the effects of enteral nutrition(EN) support with parenteral nutrition(PN) support on the early clinical recovery of patients after gastric cancer radical surgery. Methods:Forty patients with gastric cancer were randomly divided into the PN group and EN group. The PN group was treated with total PN support and EN support at 2 days after operation, and the EN group then gradual converting for total EN support, respectively. The early clinical recovery effects between two groups were compared. Results:The postoperative anal exhaust time and average hospital stay in EN group were shorter than those in PN group(P<0.01).The incidence of postoperative complications in EN group was lower than that in PN group(P<0.05).Conclusions:The early treatment of postoperative gastric cancer with enteral nutrition support can improve the nutritive condition, promote intestinal peristalsis recovery and reduce complications of patients, which is an ideal way of nutritional support after gastric cancer radical surgery.
