The effect of Chinese Taoist cognitive psychotherapy on the compliance of continuous positive airway pressure therapy in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome

Objective: To explore the effects of Chinese Taoist cognitive psychotherapy on the compliance of continuous positive airway pressure(CPAP) therapy in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome(OSAS).Methods: Ninety-seven patients with OSAS were divided into the health education group(47 cases) and the Chinese Taoist cognitive psychotherapy group(50 cases).The Epworth sleep scale(ESS),apnea hyponea index(AHI) and low arterial oxygen saturation(LAOS) were detected before treatment and after 12 weeks of treatment.The treatment compliance of CPAP was evaluated.Results: The treatment compliance of CPAP in Chinese Taoist cognitive psychotherapy group was 74.5%,which was higher than that in health education group(54.8%)(P<0.05).The differences of the scores of ESS,AHI and LAOS before treatment in two groups were not statistically significant(P>0.05).The scores of ESS and AHI in Chinese Taoist cognitive psychotherapy group were significantly lower than those in health education group,but the score of LAOS in Chinese Taoist cognitive psychotherapy group was significantly higher than that in health education group(P<0.01).Conclusions: The Chinese Taoist cognitive psychotherapy can significantly improve the compliance of continuous positive airway pressure therapy in patients with OSAS.
