Study of the colonizing and survivability of human umbilical cord blood mesenchymal stem cells in brain of rats with cerebral palsy

    • Objective: To explore the viability, migration and differentiation of human umbilical cord blood mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) in brain of rats with cerebral palsy(CP) after the lateral ventricle injection. Methods: Fourteen CP model rats were established by the intraperitoneal injection of lipopolysaccharide, and the labeled MSCs were injected into the lateral ventricle in 12 CP rats. The viability, migration and differentiation of MSCs in rat brain were observed after 1 to 4 weeks of injection.Other two rats without injecting were set as the control group. Results: The CP model rats were successfully established by the intraperitoneal injection of lipopolysaccharide, and the MSCs were identified. The colonizing MSCs could survive, migrate and differentiate into neurons, and which decreased with the transplanting time extending(P<0.01).The positive MSCs was not explored in two rats without the MSCs injecting. Conclusions: MSCs can survive in brain of rats with CP,and the number of which decrease with the time extending.
