The correlation study between the serum uric acid level and lower extremity arterial disease in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

    • Objective:To explore the correlation between the serum uric acid(SUA) level and lower extremity arterial disease(LEAD) in patients with type 2 diabetes(T2DM)mellitus.Methods:Four hundred and thirty-one patients with T2DM were divided into Q1 group(108 cases,SUA ≤ 252 μmol/L),Q2 group(108 cases,SUA>252-323 μmol/L),Q3 group(107 cases,SUA >324-430 μmol/L) and Q4 group(108 cases,SUA>430 μmo/L) according to the quartile of serum uric acid. The ankle brachial index(ABI) of all patients was determined using the arteriosclerosis/blood pressure pulse check device. The general data and biochemical index were recorded. The correlation between the SUA level and LEDA in patients with T2DM was investigated. Results:The difference of the LEAD incidence between Q1 group and Q2 group was not statistically significant(P>0.05).Compared with the Q1 group, the LEAD incidence in Q3 and Q4 groups significantly increased(P<0.01).The logistic regression analysis showed that the LEAD incidence in Q3 group(OR:3.44,95%CI:1.90-6.20,P<0.01) and Q4 group(OR:8.31,95%CI:4.50~15.35,P<0.01) significantly increased. Conclusions:With the increasing of the SUA level, the incidence of LEDA in T2DM patients increases. The high SUA level is a risk factor of LEAD in T2DM patients.
