    Analysis on prevalence and influencing factors of mobile phone dependency among college students in Bengbu city

    • Objective:To explore the correlation between social support and mobile phone dependency,and study the preliminary relationships between society,university,major,individual and the dependency.Methods:The method of stratified cluster sampling was used to collect data from freshman,sophomore and junior students in three universities in Bengbu city.A customized questionnaire was designed to cover basic messages including the age,gender,major,hometown,mobile phone-using behavior,often-used function of the phone,motive and time allocations,etc.In addition,the mobile phone dependency and the social support situation of these undergraduate was explored in this research.Results:Except for the time which using mobile phone to learn(P>0.05),the time proportion of using mobile phone in different use needs showed significant correlation with the mobile phone dependency(P < 0.05 to P < 0.01).The overall scores of social support and objective support in the mobile phone dependent group were lower than that in the non-dependent group(P < 0.05 to P < 0.01).The rate of dependence on mobile phone in group with following the advice from teachers and peers was lower than in group with not following(P<0.01).The dependence on mobile phone had significant impact on life and learning(P<0.01).The grade,non medical college and the entertainment time accounted for the proportion of mobile phone use were risk factors of mobile phone dependency in undergraduate students(P<0.01),while the high score of objective support,high utilization of support and prompting note from peers were protective factors of mobile phone dependency(P<0.05).Conclusions:A certain degree of mobile phones dependency does exist among college students.It need pay more attention from society,family and university.
