    An investigation on smoking status and harm cognition in medical and non-medical college students in Bengbu

    • Objective:To investigate the prevalence of smoking behavior and knowlege of smoking harm in different majors college students,analyze the main influencing factors of smoking behavior,and provide the scientific evidence for developing policies to prevent and control smoking.Methods:A cross-sectional survey was designed,and 1 638 students from a medical college and non-medical college in Bengbu were investigated using the cluster random sampling mothod.Results:The differences of the attempting smoking behavior,smoking behavior and once smoking behavior between medical students and non-medical students were not statistically significnat(P>0.05).The attempting smoking behavior,smoking behavior and once smoking behavior in male medical students were significantly higher than those in female medical students(P<0.01).The attempting smoking behavior,smoking behavior and once smoking behavior in male non-medical students were significantly higher than those in female non-medical students(P<0.01).Conclusions:The smoking rates of two college students are lower than that of the national average,and the smoking rate of male student is significantly higher than that of female student.The knowlege of smoking behavior harm in medical major college students is higher than that in non-medical major college students,but the knowledge of somking harm in medical major college students is not enough.
