Study on the change of serum IL-6 level in patients with chronic kidney disease and its relationship with diabetes

    • Objective: To investigate the level of serum interleukin-6(IL-6) in patients with stage 1 to 5 chronic kidney disease(CKD),its influencing factors, and correlation of IL-6 level with diabetes. Methods: A total of 57 patients with CKD were divided into the early CKD group14 cases, glomerular filtration rate(GFR) ≥ 60 mL·min-1·(1.73 m2)-1 and late CKD group43 cases,GFR <60 mL·min-1·(1.73 m2)-1.The levels of IL-6 in two groups were detected, and the correlation of which with general biochemistry indicators wss analyzed.Meanwhile, the patients were divided into the CKD complicated with diabetes group(20 cases) and CKD non-complicated with diabetes group(37 cases) according to the diabetes history, respectively, and the clinical data of two groups were analyzed. Results: The levels of serum IL-6,blood uric acid, serum brain natriuretic peptide and parathyroid hormone in early CKD group were significantly lower those in late CKD group, but the level of hemoglobin in early CKD group was significantly higher than that in late CKD group(P<0.05 to P<0.01).The level of serum IL-6 was positively correlated with urine albumin(P<0.05).The levels of glycosylated hemoglobin,IL-6 and urine albumin in CKD patients complicated with diabetes were significantly higher than those in CKD patients non-complicated with diabetes(P<0.05). Conclusions: There is a significant difference of serum IL-6 level in different stages CKD patients.Compared with the CKD patients non-complicated with diabetes, the IL-6 level in CKD patients complicated with diabetes significantly increases. The urine albumin plays an important role in the serum level of IL-6 in CKD patients.
