The curative effect analysis of the concurrent chemoradiotherapy in locally advanced gastric cancer after operation

    • Objective: To study the efficacy, adverse reaction and quality of life of the locally advanced gastric cancer patients treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Methods: Sixty-eight postoperative patients with gastric cancer were randomly divided into the concurrent chemoradiotherapy group and single chemotherapy group(34 cases each group). The concurrent chemoradiotherapy group was treated with capecitabine combined with the intensity-modulated radiotherapy, while the single chemotherapy group was treated with oxaliplatin combined with capecitabine. The 1,2 and 3-year progression-free survival rates, overall survival rates, adverse reaction and quality of life between two groups were compared. Results: The 1,2 and 3-year progression-free survival rates in concurrent chemoradiotherapy group were higher than those in single chemotherapy group(P<0.05).The differences of the 1,2 and 3-year overall survival rates, incidence of more than or equal to grade 2 gastrointestinal reactions, hematological toxicity, peripheral nerve toxicity, incidence of more than or equal to grade 1 hand-foot syndrome and quality of life between two groups were not statistically significant(P>0.05). Conclusions: Compared with the single chemotherapy, the postoperative concurrent chemoradiotherapy can improve the 1,2 and 3-year progression-free survival rates, the adverse reaction can be tolerated, and do not reduce the quality of life of the patients.
