Research on the influencing factors of health literacy on medical college students in Anhui

Objective: To investigate the overall level of health literacy of medical students,and analyze its influencing factor. Methods: Seven hundred and twenty-six medical students were randomly selected by the method of stratified cluster sampling in all grades from a medical college of Anhui province analysis.The Chinese citizens health literacy questionnaire was adopted.The influence factor of health literacy was analyzed using a multiple linear regression. Results: The scores of female's health literacy,literacy knowledge and behavior literacy were higher than those of male's(P<0.01).The scores of attitude literacy of people whose family monthly income was more than or equal to 3 000 yuan were higher than that of those whose family monthly income was less than 3 000 yuan(P<0.05).The differece of scores of knowledge literacy,attitude literacy,behavior literacy and health literacy in medical college students who had different healthy condition was significant(P<0.05).And the rest scores of other health literacy had no nostatistical difference(P>0.05).The scores of three dimensions of male's health literacy were less than that of female's(P<0.01).The scores of disease prevention and control,basic health care,and safety and first aid were increasing with the grade changing of the medical college students,whose differece was statistically significant(P<0.05 to P<0.01).The scores of three dimensions of health literacy of good and medium health condition of medical college students were higher than that of ill condition(P<0.05 to P<0.01).The scores of three dimensions of health literacy of medical college students had no statistical difference(P>0.05),which had close relation with elements as following:the only child or not,rural or urban,having lectures or not,parents' literacy,family monthly income and monthly living expense.Regression results showed that the main influencing factors of health literacy were gender,grade,parents' education and family income. Conclusions: The health literacy of medical college students is at a medium level,and the level of health literacy of the three dimensions is not balanced.Health education should be carried out through targetting the influencing factor,including major,grade,gender,parents' education,family income,and whether to participate in health lectures.
