The correlation study between migraine and obesity in children

    • Objective:To investigate the effects of obesity on the frequency and severity of migraine attack in children.Methods:Eighty-three children with migraine were divided into the normal weight group, overweight group and obesity group according to the body mass index. The characteristics and accompanying symptoms(omen, awesome sound, photophobia, nausea and vomiting) of migraine between three groups were compared. The correlation between obesity, and the duration, frequency of attack and severity of migraine were investigated. Results:The prevalence of obesity in children with migraine was 15.7%.The migraine attack in obesity group was more than that in normal weight group(P<0.05).The differences of the headache severity and duration between three groups were not statistically significant(P>0.05).Relative body mass index was positively correlated with the number of attacks(P<0.05).Obesity did not significantly affect the accompanying symptoms of migraine. Conclusions:Obesity is related to the frequency of migraine attack in children, and the early prevention and treatment should be emphasized.
