Study on the relationship between volunteer motivation and general self-efficacy in medical students

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the status of the general self-efficacy of medical students,and relationship between general self-efficacy and volunteer motivation.Methods: Three hundred medical students were investigated using the voluntary motivation scale and general self-efficacy scale by a cluster sampling method.Results: The total average score of the general self-efficacy in medical students was higher than that the middle score(2.50),the ratio of the students with more than the middle level was 54.3%(163 students),and the general self-efficacy of male students was higher than that of female students(P<0.01).The general self-efficacy in students with attending volunteer service was higher than that in students without attending volunteer service(P<0.01).There was no statistical significance of the general self-efficacy between the college score and home area of students(P<0.05).There was statistical significance of the general self-efficacy in different family per capita monthly income(P<0.05).There was no statistical significance of the general self-efficacy in different grades and whether the only child(P>0.05).The correlation analysis showed that the 6 dimensions of voluntary motivation were correlated with the total score of voluntary motivation and general self-efficacy,and the stepwise regression analysis showed that the general self-efficacy has a significantly positive predicton effect on the voluntary motivation.Conclusions: General self-efficacy has a significantly positive prediction effect on voluntary motivation.In the guidance of medical students to attend volunteer service,satisfying the self-confidence and honor of students can improve their enthusiasm in participating the voluntary service.
