The expression and clinical significance of Smo and Gli1 in gastric cancer

    • Objective:To investigate the expressions of Smo and Gli1 in gastric cancer tissues and paracarcinoma tissues, and their correlations with clinicopathological features of gastric cancer. Methods:The protein expressions of Smo and Glil in 75 cases of gastric cancer tissues and 45 cases of paracarcinoma tissues were detected using immunohistochemical EliVision method. The mRNA expressions of Smo and Glil in 30 cases of fresh gastric cancer tissues and paracarcinoma tissues(5 cm distance from cut edge) were detected using RT-PCR technology. Results:The results of immunostochemical staining showed that the positive rates of the protein expressions of Smo and Glil in gastric cancer tissues were significantly higher than those in paracarcinoma tissues(P<0.01).Compared with the paracarcinoma tissues, the results of RT-PCR showed that the mRNA expression levels of Smo and Gli1 significantly increased in gastric cancer tissues(P<0.01).Both methods demonstrated that the differences of the positive expression rates of Smo and Gli1 in different age, gender, tumor differentiation and size were not statistically significant(P>0.05),and the differences of the expression positive rates of Smo and Gli1 in different TNM stage, invasion depth and lymph node metastasis were statistically significant(P<0.01).Conclusions:The protein expressions of Smo and Gli1 are related to the lymph node metastasis, clinical stage and invasion depth of gastric cancer, which hints that Smo and Gli1 may be related to the malignant biological behavior of gastric cancer. The expression of Smo is positively correlated with Glil in gastric cancer, which maybe play a synergistic action in the occurrence and development of gastric cancer.
