    Association between vitamin D deficiency and dyslipidemia in patients with schizophrenia

    • Objective:To investigate the association of vitamin D(VitD)deficiency with dyslipidemia in schizophrenic patients.Methods:Two hundred twenty-nine patients with schizophrenia were choosed,information about demographic characteristics and life style were obtained through questionnaire,and fasting blood sample was collected and plasma concentrations of 25-hydroxyvitamin D25(OH)D,total cholesterol (TC),triglycende(TG) and high deity lipoprotein-cholesterol(HDL-C) were measured.The association between VitD deficiency and lipid levels was assessed by χ2 test and logistic regression model.Results:The mean levels of 25(OH)D,TC,TG and HDL-C in schizophrenic patients were(45.9±21.3) nmol/L,(4.1±0.8) mmol/L,(1.2±0.7) mmol/L and(1.2±0.3) mmol/L,respectively.The incidences of VitD deficiency,dyslipidemia in TC,TG and HDL-C in schizophrenic patients were 60.3%,10.9%,15.7% and 34.1%,respectively.After controlling for confounders,compared with patients without VitD deficiency,the risk of dyslipidemia in TG (adjusted OR=2.80,95%CI 1.21-6.46) and HDL-C(adjusted OR=2.48,95%CI 1.35-4.56) significantly increased in patients with VitD deficiency.Conclusions:VitD deficiency may be associated with dyslipidemia in schizophrenic patients.
