Application of fast track surgery in elderly patients treated with laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery

    • Objective:To evaluate the safety and feasibility of fast track surgery in elderly patients treated with laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery.Methods:Thirty-two elderly colorectal cancer patients scheduled by laparoscopic radical colorectal resection were randomly divided into the quick recovery group(16 cases treated with perioperative FTS therapy) and conventional treatment group(16 cases treated with conventional perioperative therapy). The postoperative first flatus time,semi-liquid intake time, postoperative hospital stay, hospital expense, postoperative complications and stress, and nutrition index between two groups were compared. Results:The postoperative first flatus time,semi-liquid intake time, postoperative hospital stay and hospital expense in quick recovery group were better than those in conventional treatment group(P<0.05 to P<0.01),and the difference of the incidence rate of postoperative complication between two group was not statistically significant(P>0.05).The postoperative HOMA-IR index, and the serum levels of IL-6 and TNF-α in quick recovery group were significantly lower than those in conventional treatment group(P<0.05 to P<0.01),and the difference of cortisol level between two groups was not statistically significant(P>0.05).The differences of the levels of serum prealbumin and albumin between two group were not statistically significant(P>0.05).Conclusions:Fast track surgery in elderly colorectal cancer patients treated with laparoscopic radical resection is safe and effective.
