Effect of biofeedback combined with paroxetine in the treatment of depression

Objective: To observe the effects of biofeedback combined with paroxetine in the treatment of depression.Methods: Sixty patients with the first onset depression were randomly divided into the observation group and control group.Two groups were treated with 20 to 40 mg of paroxetine per day,and the observation group was additionally treated with biofeedback,3 times a week for 6 weeks.The therapeutic effects in two groups were evaluated using Hamilton depression scale(HAMD) before treatment and at 1,2,4 and 6 weeks after treatment.The adverse reactions in two groups were evaluated during treatment.Results: The differences of the effective rate and adverse reaction between two groups were not statistically significant(P>0.05).Compared with before treatment,the scores of HAMD in two groups significantly decreased after 1,2,4,6 weeks of treatment(P<0.01).At 2 and 4 weeks after treatment,the scores of HAMD in observation group were lower than that in control group(P<0.05),and at other time points,the difference of the score of HAMD between two groups was not statistically significant(P>0.05).Conclusions: The biofeedback combined with paroxetine in treating depression can improve the therapeutic effects,which is safe and worthy of promotion in clinic.
