Study on the correlation of neck artery tortuosity and cognitive dysfunction

    • Objective:To explore the relationship between neck artery tortuosity and cognitive dysfunction. Methods:One hundred and sixty-two patients detected by CT angiography of head and neck were selected. The cognitive function of patients was evaluated using the Montreal Intelligence Scale. The number of neck artery tortuosity was calculated. The relationship between neck artery tortuosity and cognitive dysfunction was analyzed. Results:Compared with normal people, the incidence rate of neck artery tortuosity was significantly higher in patients with cognitive dysfunction(P<0.01).Logistic regression analysis indicated that the age and neck artery tortuosity were the risk factors of cognitive dysfunction(P<0.01),but the vertebral artery tortuosity was unrelated to the cognitive dysfunction(P>0.05).The Pearson correlation analysis showed that the cognitive dysfunction score was negatively correlated with the neck artery tortuosity number(r=-0.618,P<0.05).Conclusions:Neck artery tortuosity may be the independent risk factor of cognitive dysfunction.
