Abstract
Objective:To investigate the correlation between the levels of nuclear factor-κB(NF-κB) and serum amyloid A(SAA),and lung function in children with asthma.Methods:Ninety-two children with bronchial asthma and 30 healthy children were divided into the asthma group and control group, respectively. The levels of NF-κB and SAA in two groups were detected using the protein immunoblotting and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay, respectively. The correlation between the levels of NF-κB and SAA,and lung function was investigated. Results:The levels of NF-κB and SAA in asthma group were significantly higher than those in control group(P<0.01),but the percentage of peak expiratory flow velocity to predicted value(PEF%),percentage of the 1st second force expiratory to predicted value(FEV1%) and FEV1/FVC in asthma group were significantly lower than those in control group(P<0.01).The levels of NF-κB and SAA in the asthma group were significantly negatively correlated with lung function indexes(PEF%,FEV1%,and FEV1/FVC) (P<0.01).Conclusions:NF-κB and SAA can play certain roles in the attack process of bronchial asthema by participating in the airway reconstruction and inflammatory reaction.
