Effect of different risk factors on perioperative pulmonary infection in elderly hip fracture patients

    • Objective: To investigate the effects of different risk factors on perioperative pulmonary infection in elderly hip fracture patients. Methods: The clinical data of 120 elderly patients with hip fracture, which included 60 cases complicated with pulmonary infection and 60 cases complicated without pulmonary infection, were retrospectively analyzed. The clinical indexes between two groups were compared. The risk factors of hip fracture complicated with perioperative pulmonary infection in elderly patients were analyzed using logistic regression analysis. Results: The results of univariate analysis showed that the smoking, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, history of diabetes, heart disease, mechanical ventilation, transfusing red bloodcell, preoperative low body mass index, preoperative low albumin,ICU admission, operation time and hospital stay were the risk factors of perioperative pulmonary infection in elderly patients with hip fracture(P<0.05 to P<0.01).The results of multivariate regression analysis showed that the age more than 80 years, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, history of diabetes, mechanical ventilation and operation time ≥ 2 h were the independent risk factors of perioperative pulmonary infection in elderly patients with hip fracture(P<0.05).Conclusions: The age more than 80 years, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, history of diabetes, mechanical ventilation and operation time ≥ 2 h can increase the risk of perioperative pulmonary infection in elderly patients with hip fracture.
