A survey of the learning attitude of medical students towards doctor-patient communication skill

Abstract
Objective:To investigate the learning attitude and influencing factors of medical students in Anhui Medical University toward the medical communication skills,and provide evidence for improving doctor-patient communication course.Methods:The grade 2015 medical undergraduates from the Second Clinical Medical College were investigated using the general condition scale and Chinese version of Communication Skills Attitude Scale(CSAS).Results:A total of 400 questionnaires were issued,370 valid questionnaires were recovered,and the effective recovery rate was 92.50%.The average score of PAS was (50.17±7.25),which was related to the gender,participating community activities,loving medicine profession,confidence in becoming a qualified doctor and good interpersonal communication skills(P<0.05 to P<0.01),and the loving medicine profession and good interpersonal communication was the independent influencing factors(P<0.05).The average score of NAS was(34.98±5.70),which was related to the gender,participating community activities and character type(P<0.05),and the gender was the independent influencing factors(P<0.05).Among the respondents,91.10% of students had never studied the interpersonal communication courses,and 255 students(75.67%) believed that the compulsory course of doctor-patient communication skills should be established.Conclusions:The medical students of Anhui Medical University have high enthusiasm in learning doctor-patient communication skills,and the compulsory courses should be established with advanced teaching and evaluation method.The clinical teachers should pay more attention to the male,introverted personality,unlike medicine profession,lack confidence of study,unparticipating in community activities,and learn positivity and negative emotion in poor interpersonal communication skills students to improve the doctor-patient communication skills and related teaching level.
