Correlation between serum vitamin D level and cough variant asthma in children

Objective:To observe the serum level of 25 hydroxy vitamin D325-(OH)D₃ in children with cough variant asthma(CVA),and analyze its relationship with serum level of total immunoglobulin E(T IgE) associated with CVA.Methods:The serum levels of 25-(OH)D₃ and T IgE in 40 cases with cough variant asthma(cough variant asthma group) and 42 healthy children(normal control group) were detected,and which was compared between two groups.Results:The serum levels of 25-(OH)D₃ and T IgE in CVA group were significantly lower and higher those in normal control group,respectively(P<0.01).The serum level of 25-(OH)D₃ in CVA group was negatively correlated with level of T IgE(r=-0.937,P<0.01).Conclusions:Vitamin D deficiency is an important cause of CVA exacerbations in children,which may be related to the inhibitory effect of 25-(OH)D₃ on the T IgE.
