Study on the hollow reinforced bone cement pedicle screw internal fixation in the treatment of elderly thoracolumbar vertebral compression fractures

    • Objective:To investigate the clinical effects of hollow reinforced cement pedicle screw internal fixation in the treatment of elderly thoracolumbar vertebral compression fractures.Methods:Forty-three elderly patients with thoracolumbar vertebral compression fractures were divided into the control group(21 cases) and observation group(23 cases) according to random number table. The control group and observation group were treated with open reduction and internal fixation of polyfissure muscle space, and cement reinforced pedicle screw internal fixation, respectively. The clinical efficacy and intraoperative situation between two groups were compared. The VAS scores,Cobb angle, height of the anterior edge of vertebral body before treatment and after 6 months of treatment, and incidence of complications after 6 months of treatment in two groups were recorded. Results:The clinical efficacy in observation group was significantly better than that in control group(P<0.05),and the total effective rate in observation group(95.5%) was significantly higher than that in control group(76.2%)(P<0.05).The operation time, amount of intraoperative bleeding, times of fluoroscopy and time of getting out of bed after operation in observation group significantly decreased compared with control group(P<0.01).The VAS score and Cobb angle in two groups after 6 months of treatment significantly decreased compared with before treatment(P<0.01),and the height of anterior edge of vertebral body increased compared with before treatment(P<0.01).The improvement of VAS score,Cobb angle and anterior height of vertebral body in observation group were better than those in control group(P<0.01).There was no statistical significance in the incidence rate of complications between two groups(P>0.05).Conclusions:The hollow reinforced cement pedicle screw fixation in the treatment of elderly thoracolumbar vertebral compression fractures can effectively relieve pain, promote function recovery, and reduce complications, which is worthy of clinical promotion.
